Vacation 2010

Our family lives in a home we call "Shepherd's Way" near Jackson, TN (more particularly, near the small community of Medina, TN).  We share our home with various animals and, from time to time, a student who needs a place to stay.  We built the home about 11 years ago.  The land was part of an old home place, bought from Mr. and Mrs. Guy Johnson.  Mr. Guy moved there in the early 1920s as a nine-year-old, having traveled to the site in a wagon with his family.  Of the original 17.5 acres we bought, we kept 5.5, developing the rest and selling off lots around a lake we built.  This in effect paid for our part of the land.  Pat and I designed the house, and I did the contracting myself, which saved us a ton of money.  The house is designed to be highly energy efficient and uses a water-source heat pump for heating and air.  The place is very functional and a great place for various types of ministry; the kids have loved growing up in the country.  We have wood ducks, blue and green herons, kingfishers, the very occasional goose, and an amazing variety of woodland birds, including owls heard in the night.  The herons have eaten many of the fish with which I stocked the pond, but they are enjoyable to watch.
