A Cry to the Lord at this Critical Time

A Cry to the Lord at this Critical Time

My wife, Pat, crafted the following prayer, which she prayed in our worship service yesterday. Would you join us in praying it today?

Lord, because You are our High Priest, we approach Your throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace as we come to You and pray for ourselves and our country. (Hebrews 4:16)

WE CONFESS that through our sins, we have contributed to the current state of our country.

Forgive us for not loving You with all of our heart, soul, strength and mind.
Forgive us for not loving our neighbors as ourselves.
Forgive us for thinking more highly of ourselves than we should.
Forgive us for making idols and putting other things before You.
Forgive us for not hiding Your Word in our hearts.
Forgive us for racial prejudice.
Forgive us for not honoring our parents.
Forgive us for not loving and honoring our spouses.
Forgive us for being consumers of material goods and not consumed with You.
Forgive us for our pride.
Forgive us for prayerlessness.

Lord, without Your help, we are lost.
Please pour out Your Spirit on us.
By Your Spirit, open our ears. Open our eyes. Open our hearts.
Make our hearts break at what breaks Your heart.
Help us to see our sin and be broken over it.
Help us to hear Your voice in the cacophony of our culture.

We pray and agree with the Psalmist—" Will You not Yourself revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?"
YOU are our only hope!

Lord, this world is not our home. We are only passing through to our real home with You in eternity. Forgive us for becoming so comfortable here that we think this is our home. Forgive us for being surprised that this World hates us.

You, Lord, establish governments.
There is no authority except from You and those that exist have been instituted by You.  (Romans 13:1b)

*Your Word instructs us to come to You praying for those who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)

We pray for the salvation of those running for office.
We pray for godly judges who will rule in righteousness.
We pray You will bind the enemy from dividing our country.

Your Word tells us that no human government lasts; only Jesus will reign forever. His Kingdom is now and will not end. Through Isaiah You said:

"For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this."
(Isaiah 9:6-7)

Amen
